Free Christmas tree crochet pattern

It’s Day 5, and time to put the tree up! Grab your Advent CALendar yarn bundle, and read on to find the free pattern to crochet a Christmas tree, or download the PDF version here.
You will need:
- 1 ball of The Cotton One (Highland Brown)
- 1 ball of The Cotton One (Forest Green)
- 1 ball of The Cotton One (Paper White)
- Toy stuffing
- 4.5mm crochet hook
- A sewing needle
Abbreviations (US terminology)
blo - back loop only
ch - chain
dc - double crochet (UK terms: tr - treble crochet)
inc – single crochet twice in the next stitch, also known as an increase stitch
rnd(s) – round(s)
sc - single crochet (UK term: dc - double crochet)
ss - slip stitch
st(s) - stitch(es)

The Pattern
This christmas tree is crocheted in separate parts, then sewn together.
Tree Crown
Using Forest Green, start with a magic ring.
1st rnd: 6 sc into the magic ring. (6 sts)
2nd rnd: sc all sts.
3rd rnd: inc in every st of the rnd. (12 sts)
4th – 6th rnds: sc all sts.
7th rnd: Repeat *1 sc, inc* 6 times. (18 sts)
8th – 10th rnds: sc all sts.
11th rnd: Repeat *2 sc, inc* 6 times. (24 sts)
12th - 14th rnds: sc all sts.
15th rnd: Repeat *3 sc, inc* 6 times. (30 sts)
16th – 17th rnds: sc all sts.
18th rnd: Repeat *4 sc, inc* 6 times. (36 sts)
19th rnd: sc all sts.
Join in Paper White.
20th rnd: sc all sts.
Continue in Forest Green.
21st rnd: sc all sts.
Continue in Paper White.
22nd rnd: sc all sts.
Break off Paper White, continue in Forest Green.
23rd rnd: sc all sts.
The Christmas tree skirt is created using double crochet to create a scalloped hem.
24th rnd: Repeat *sc, skip next to stitches, 5 dc into the same stitch, skip next 2 stitches* 6 times, ss to join rnd.
Break off Forest Green, join in Paper White.
25th rnd: sc all sts, ss to join rnd.
Fasten off your last stitch. Leaving approx. 15cm yarn tail, cut yarn.
Tree Base
Using Forest Green, start with a magic ring.
1st rnd: 6 sc into magic ring. (6 sts)
2nd rnd: inc in every st of the rnd. (12 sts)
3rd rnd: Repeat *1 sc, inc* 6 times. (18 sts)
4th rnd: Repeat *2 sc, inc* 6 times. (24 sts)
5th rnd: 1 sc, inc, repeat *3 sc, inc* 5 times, 2 sc. (30 sts)
6th rnd: Repreat *4 sc, inc* 6 times. (36 sts)
Fasten off your last stitch. Leaving approx. 40cm yarn tail, cut yarn.
Trunk
Using Highland Brown, start with a magic ring.
1st rnd: 6 sc into the magic ring. (6 sts)
2nd rnd: inc in every st of the rnd. (12 sts)
3rd rnd: sc in blo all sts.
4th – 6th rnds: sc all sts.
Fasten off your last stitch. Leaving approx. 20cm yarn tail, cut yarn.
Lightly fill the trunk with toy stuffing. Leaving the opening unclosed.
Finishing
Sewing up
Attach trunk to base
Using the yarn tail from the trunk, thread the yarn onto the needle. Align the unclosed opening to the center of the tree base and attach with a few stitches.
Attach base to tree body
Stuff the body of the tree firmly, continue with the yarn tail from the tree base, sew the base to the 23rd rnd of the tree until you have worked around the circle. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
