Let’s get started! Learn how to crochet part of your quilt’s flowers using the Petal Cluster granny square pattern.


How to crochet the Petal Cluster Granny Square


First things first…

You’ll use Colour A of your chosen color pack to make 17 squares.

Where will they go on my quilt?

These squares will make up half of the flower petals on your quilt. We’ve used our Spring color palette to make this quilt, so our shade of The Cotton One for Color A is Baby Pink. The squares are shown in our finished project here:

Round 1

You’ll start by crocheting into a magic ring. Once you’ve completed your 11dc, pull on the end of your yarn to close the circle, then finish off with your slip stitch into the 3rd chain from the start of the round.

Round 2

In this round, you’ll work a 3dc-cl (3 double crochet cluster). To do this, you’ll work parts of double crochets, before closing all the loops together:

yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull yarn through, yo and pull through 2 loops on the hook.

  

How to crochet a 3 double crochet cluster

Work the above step 3 times, giving you 4 loops left on the hook, yo pull through all the loops on your hook to complete the stitch.

Round 3

It’s time to turn your circle into a square! Create corners by working sets of double crochets into the same chain space.

Round 4

Add the finishing touches to your square with a single crochet border.
