On Sunday the 9th of June, Stitch & Story’s Jen had the pleasure of leading The Big Knit Knitting Party at The Village Haberdashery in West Hampstead, London, hosted by the lovely Annie. The fundraising event, organised to support The Big Knit campaign for Age UK, took place during a Sunday Knitternoon meet-up - a weekly informal, friendly knitting group open to all levels and the perfect opportunity to meet some like-minded crafters and try out a new skill.
Innocent Drinks started The Big Knit in 2003. It asks people everywhere to knit tiny hats which are placed on Innocent smoothies and to date over 7.5 million tiny hats have been knitted. For every hat-wearing smoothie sold 25p is donated to Age UK, the UK's largest charity working with older people. The campaign has raised nearly £2.5 million.
If you’re new to knitting or are looking for a quick, fun and worthy way to use up some of your leftover yarn then getting involved with The Big Knit is great. There are over forty free patterns (including crochet) to choose from or you are welcome to come up with your own - it just needs to fit over an Innocent smoothie bottle.
The Big Knit Knitting Party at The Village Haberdashery is the perfect opportunity to get involved, meet some new people and enjoy a fun Sunday afternoon crafting. You can sign up for the event on Sunday 23rd here. Yarn, snacks and instruction provided so if you’ve never knit before here’s your chance to learn.
Stitch & Story loved partnering with The Village Haberdashery - one of our London stockists - for this event, supplying our beautiful The Lil’ Merino yarn and leading the knitting workshop. The Village Haberdashery is a modern craft shop and class studio based in West Hampstead that aims to inspire everyone who walks through its doors to make something amazing. If you’re London-based or visiting we highly recommend you pop by the store to meet the brilliant team and explore everything they have to offer - including a huge selection of Stitch & Story yarns and kits!
Sunday’s event saw five crafters, including a complete beginner, knit and crochet some really fun hats - each with their own twist - to support a great cause. It was the perfect opportunity to play with some yarn, take some photographs and share crafting stories.
If you’re in London and would like to learn to knit Stitch & Story host weekly Beginner Workshops, and if you would like to get involved in The Big Knit in a social setting then sign up for the next The Big Knit Knitting Party at The Village Haberdashery.
