How to Decrease (SKPO)

SKPO is an abbreviation for 'Slip, Knit, Pass Over' a technique used to decrease the number of stitches on your needle. SKPO creates a 'left-leaning' decrease.

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1:

Insert your right needle into the next stitch as if to knit. Instead of making a knit stitch, slip the stitch off of the left-hand needle, onto the right.

Step 2:

Knit your next stitch as normal.

Step 3:

Now we'll pass the slipped stitch over the knit stitch on your right-hand needle.  To do this, insert the tip of your left-hand needle into the second loop on your right-hand needle.

Step 4:

Gently lift this loop up and over the knit stitch next to it.

Step 5:

Carry the loop over and off the tip of the right-hand needle.

Step 6:

You have now decreased using 'Slip, Knit, Pass Over'.
